hearts of three

Jack London said about this novel himself, "I have written some novels of adventure in my time, but never, in all of the many of them, have I perpetrated a totality of action equal to what is contained in 'Hearts of Three'." This is an adventure novel where we find the story of the life of two men who are very alike in appearance and hunt for treasure in the South Sea Islands. The plot of the book keeps readers attentive and even a bit strained as the main characters get into many adventures. Though being thrilling and full of events the novel is full of nice moments which add to it the old charm.

History of the United States

Beard Charles Austin’s History of the United States is a textbook about the American history from its founding to the XIX century. The author explains the historical processes and facts that are reciprocal according to the law of cause and effect. The main advantage of the book is that history isn’t just narrated chronologically but arranged thematically, mostly paying attention to the social and economic aspects as the dominant determinants but not war strategy. Besides the inner historical developments there are described the relations with other countries, the most important of which are ones with Europe.

Have a Little Faith

Mitch Albom, the author of this book, is an American writer, let alone his work as a journalist, radio and television broadcaster, musician, screenwriter and dramatist. But what brought him the greatest fame are his inspirational stories and themes of writings. Have a Little Faith, a remarkable example of such a story, is a book that touches upon that sort of important questions people ask themselves, especially in hard times, turning more to their beliefs. The aim of our life, loss of belief, finding the path to God – that is what the book is centered around. This is a perfectly written story, describing the eight year long author’s voyage to the two worlds – different faiths. Being asked by an aged rabbi to eulogize him after death, Albom returns to faith, he had left long ago. At the same time the life pushes him together with a Detroit pastor, who used to be a criminal in the old days, but changed his life and began preaching to the poor and homeless in a shabby old church. The author becomes involved in lives, Christian and Jewish, African-American and white, miserable and comfortable. These two different people with completely different past and present use faith in exactly the same way in their uneasy times, apply to the same values, fortitude, forgiveness, and the importance of faith. At the end of his narration the author comes to a conclusion, that these two worlds, whatever separates them so much, are more similar to one another than it seems.
